Printmaking and Mixed Media

I mostly explore printmaking through relief print with woodcut and linocut, and watercolour monoprint. I also use the materials for printing such as the plates for woodcut or linocut prints to create mixed media artwork. The watercolour monoprint are created with acetate sheets or plastic sheets and watercolour paint.

Wish ko lang (How I wish)

This a series of relief print on lottery tickets with image or symbols of luck that is based on various cultural and popular beliefs that has somehow been intertwined through stories and media.

A pot of gold at the end of a rainbow; wishing on a falling star; hanging a horseshoe at the door; blowing a dandelion; rubbing a magical lamp; finding a four leaf clover; keys for lasting love; eating a twin banana; we all hold on to our own superstitious belief of luck, consciously or unconsciously recognizing the control over our circumstances and results of success may depend on such objects. Don’t you ever wish you win the lottery? Or at least having the “I just won the lottery” kind of feeling? Good luck with that!

Balik Eskwela (Back to School)

The black shoes is standard attire with a school uniform, meanwhile the wooden armed chair is commonly used in classroom. For me, these are strong images of school and education in the Philippines. These are also printed on pages of school textbooks. .
